In the fall of 2023, Andrew Darling embarked on a pivotal journey, relocating to Oklahoma to spearhead communications for the Blessed Stanley Rother Shrine. His connection to Father Stanley Rother’s inspiring saga began in his seminary days in Dallas, Texas. Attending the beatification Mass in 2017 was a pivotal moment. Then, a transformative trip to Guatemala deepened his appreciation for the Tz’utujil people’s culture and resilience. Tracing the footsteps of Blessed Stanley in Santiago Atitlán, Andrew visited the sacred space of his martyrdom, now a chapel, feeling the profound impact of his legacy. Some years later, his initial encounter with the shrine’s retablo and chapel — adorned in Spanish colonial elegance — left him in the same kind of awe.
After three enriching years in the seminary, Andrew graduated from the University of Dallas with a philosophy degree, transitioning to a devoted service at All Saints Catholic Church. His roles there, from Junior High Ministry to Faith Formation, culminated in his realization: his true calling was in evangelization through strategic communication.
Andrew’s tenure has revolutionized shrine communications. He streamlined the BSRS website, introduced digital displays in the Pilgrim Center to honor donors and greet pilgrims, and he created bilingual brochures due to the large Hispanic population here in south Oklahoma City. He revived the publication of Apla’s Magazine, now reaching over 14,000 readers, and his artistic flair in photography and videography captures the shrine’s essence, conveying the depth of its Gospel message.
Andrew’s vision for the shrine’s future is boundless. His academic pursuits in Business and Marketing at LSU Shreveport complement his creative endeavors. A maestro of multiple instruments, his weekends resonate with the melody of family and friendship, as well as a growing skill in carpentry.
